Floral Whimsy

This floral is one of my first oil paintings as an adult and is wholly muse imagined and directed.

Blind Lit

Click to Bid (10x10)

Like many artists I am fascinated by light.  I sat this still up in a spare bedroom near a blind-covered window.  It was a joy to paint and now I am off to start the landscape on my easel, which is part of my Western Wiles series.

Dazzling Dahlia

My weekend has been full standing by to help the hubby with home repairs (thanks Ken), biking along the stunning Trail of the Coeur d'alenes, and preparing sketches for oil painting. So, I thought I would take a brief look back at where I started painting: with watercolor.  I believe I was working as a Systems Manager for North America's largest heavy duty truck manufacturer.  During that time I painted large, focused florals to get lost in and to forget about the chaos in my work life.

I love the transparency of watercolor, coupled with the lost and found edges.  Still, after painting in oils for only a short time I realize that's where my passion lies.  With watercolor I painted from my intellect and with oil it's different.  Increasingly, when painting in oils I find myself in a deeply sensual place, intuitively guided by my muse.  Now, if only I could hurry the technical design and painting skills along, the paintings I would create...

Purple Impressions

Click to bid (8x8)

I never get tired of flowers!

Having only recently turned to painting oils instead of watercolors, I am exploring many different styles and techniques.  Perhaps here I'm tapping into my inner Impressionist.  I sure love forming textures with the palette knife and suspect there will be a future painting with mainly knives.

Simple Inspirations

Click to Bid (9x12)

This will likely be the end of my apple stills, but then again, they are so much fun!  I struggled to get the photo color right; it's still a bit darker here than in the actual painting...
I'm so enjoying working on more complicated pieces that I'm not ready to share yet; hopefully soon: Channeling C├ęzanne and Goat Rocks Wilderness.

Apple Portrait

Click to Bid (6x6)

The inspiration for this fun piece came from a simple photo of an apple on my kitchen counter.  I snapped the photo with my cell phone, "morphed" it through the camera effects a bit and headed for the canvas.  What a simple joy!

Sun Bath

Click to Bid (6x6)

The inspirational spark for this piece came with a trip to a spare bedroom on a beautiful North Central Idaho morning. Sunlight streaked in through closed blinds and I grabbed my Galaxy S7 camera with the handy phone attached, some fruit and I set up a still life.  What a joy to compose and paint!
